St Mary’s Church

St Mary’s Church

and Nordermarkt

The former trading centre of the city

As the small port around the St Johannis district began to silt up, the people of Flensburg began building a second settlement, before the year 1200.

The port along the Schiffbrücke shopping street as well as the Nordermarkt - where St Mary’s Church and the historic building with an arched passage way, known as the Schrangen, are located – quickly became a trading centre. Through the generous donations of wealthy merchants in the 16th and 17th centuries, St Mary’s became a lavishly ornate church full of treasures.

In addition to services and tours, the church also offers wonderful concerts featuring the famous Flensburg Bach Choir for you to enjoy alongside the active congregation.
