St. Johannis (John’s) Church

The church was erected some 900 years ago as a Schutz- und Trutzkirche (stronghold) for the fishermen's living quarters; it is designed in the mould of the Anglia country stone churches. Strolling through the picturesque Captains’ Quarter, you can enjoy the romantic ambience at the church site. Participating in one of the special services, like the fairy tale church service, is a one of a kind experience. St. John’s enthrals its visitors with Gothic church vaults, magnificent paintings, and a series of concerts, the Johannisklang. On a regular basis, St. John’s Church with its unique acoustics, is transformed into a stage, presenting national and international artists.
